My Philosophy
The preschool years are some of the most important years in your child’s life. They grow more physically, emotionally, and cognitively than they will at any point in their lives. During these years, children gain self – esteem as they learn basic life skills and independence, and they start to make sense of the world around them as they engage in meaningful play.
My goal is to build on your child’s natural curiosity and help them gain a love of learning. I create an environment where your child will have opportunities to ask questions, make discoveries, learn with others, and take creative risks.
Daily Schedule
Circle Time: This is a time for the whole group to gather as one. It is the perfect time for kids to ask questions and express ideas. We read books, discuss topics and themes, sing songs, and play games.
Learning Centers: A big part of our preschool is learning through play. Our classroom has different hands on learning centers that change with a monthly theme. It is the perfect time for kids to practice social skills as they learn to share, take turns, and express their needs and ideas.
- Art Center: Art is a process of exploration not a structured environment. The art center allow children to explore their own artistic views and ideas through different media.
- Math Center: The math center provides fun hands on games and manipulative toys that promote exploration. Children can can practice basic math skills like counting, sorting, and manipulating shapes.
- Dramatic Play Center: Children process the world around them through role playing. It is a great place to practice social skills while children are playing and working with others.
- Writing Center: Children will learn writing skills by using a variety of tools to doodle, draw, and write. We also have fun activities that help children recognize letters and numbers.
- Block Center: As children are building, balancing, and manipulating blocks they are strengthening their motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and spatial awareness. They also work on social skills and learn to negotiate as they build together.
- Science Center: The science center has many open-ended opportunities for kids to discover and explore the world around them. Children are encouraged to observe, ask questions, and make predictions.
- Library: The library helps your child with their language and literacy skills. This is a quiet area where children can read or listen to books that correspond with the current theme. To enrich their imagination we often include puppets and a flannel board used to act out stories.
Music and Movement: Studies have shown that music can improve a child’s ability to learn. As part of our class we sing, dance, and play games that make us get up and move our bodies. This helps build language, math, and fine and gross motor skills. It is also a great way to teach kids self-expression and creativity.
Social and Emotional Skills: I believe that learning how to play with other children and follow the rules of the classroom is one of the most important skills your child will learn for future school and life success. In class we will teach kids problem solving skills that can help them solve conflicts with their peers. We talk about emotions and learn how to recognize and regulate our own emotions. Kids will learn to be independent and gain self-esteem as they practice the daily routine and rules of the classroom.
